A painting is not a picture of an experience, but is the experience.”- Mark Rothko
John Cage’s ‘Ryoanji’: A meditational sound event
Wednesday, February 15, 12:00 PM
Niles Gallery, Lucille Little Fine Arts Library
Free and open to the public
Nancy Clauter (oboe), Kevin Holm-Hudson, (percussion), and Jay Crutcher (sound projections) perform Cage’s piece inspired by a Zen rock garden in Kyoto. The score consists of various partial tracings of rocks, the location and extent of which were determined by chance operations. Come for all or part of the performance.
(from my Asian Art History professor, A-H 310)
Art is not living. It is the use of living.
